Through hard work, wrist-wrenching, and eye-gaze, we finally managed to paint the third board for our new game. This time, we based it on a historical map of the city of Nassau (those who were there will recognize the layout of the streets and characteristic places and buildings).
Initially, the Nassau map was supposed to be just a simple supplement to your adventures as a tavern manager, but despite our best efforts, we can’t do simple things… 😉
Sitting by the fireplace with a glass of rum and looking at the map itself, we came up with more and more bold ideas.
Firstly, this is the place you will choose to locate your Tavern. Each place is unique and provides different starting bonuses, and is located at a different distance from the port itself, which will translate into fatigue and the richness of the crews of ships looking for entertainment in the city.
Secondly, your beater’s pawn will move around on this map. His task will be to advertise your Tavern, recruit staff, buy alcohol, both common and high-end.
Posters hung by your beater will allow you to attract more natives in difficult times, when the crews of ships will not want to spend their hard-looted gold with you. And if that is not enough, he can try to “organize” additional cash, in the homes of the wealthier townspeople. Finally, he can use his club to “talk” to beaters of other players… 😉
He can also acquire necessary equipment for your ship without cash.
Maybe in some dark alley he will also meet someone famous enough to use his cutlass to gain deserved glory, of course on your behalf.
Third, it is a port city, so shipbuilders and carpenters will gladly undertake, for a fair fee, the expansion of your ship or the addition of another room to your Tavern.
Fourth, because the crews of ships sailing to Nassau can bring their wealth to your Tavern, or in some cases, deprive you of it, it is possible to manipulate the reputation of your Tavern in a suitable way, so that the pluses go to you and the minuses have to be dealt with by the competition 😉
In the next entry, we will describe the guests sailing to Nassau.
Most of them came here to honestly get rid of their ill-gotten wealth, exchanging it for entertainment available on the spot, but some, more eccentric ones, can bring a lot of confusion to the whole story…
